A lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of an elderly woman who claims she was taken advantage of by several Arizona telemarketing companies.
The woman claims the companies cheated her out of more than $80,000 and is seeking compensation for her financial loss and mental anguish.
Companies Accused
The suit, which was filed by Charles McNagny on behalf of the 84-year-old woman, accuses the 10 companies named of violating the no-call list.
According to the woman's claims, the companies called her from November 2005 through October 2006 to solicit money.
Representatives from the telemarketing companies allegedly misled the woman, telling her that she owed them money, was overdue on various accounts and needed to make payments in bundled amounts.
The suit claims that the transactions, taken from her credit card and checking account, were made without the woman's consent.
The companies accused in the suit include Americans with Disabilities LLC, Arizona Center of Faith LLC and U.S. Vet Workshop LLC.
Woman Faces Financial Trouble
McNagny says he is trying his hardest to gain back the money the woman, who is single with no children, lost.
“It's been a pretty big hit to her,” says McNagny.
The woman reportedly wrote to the companies demanding that her money be returned before filing the suit, but received no response.
“I just think it is very sad,” commented McNagny, “ I think it's important that people know this kind of thing goes on.”
