A woman living in Lincoln County, Florida, has filed a civil lawsuit in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
The suit was filed by the FTC in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Travel Agency Named in Suit
Travel Agents Direct, LLC, was one of the many defendants listed in the telemarketing fraud suit.
The Florida based agency was doing business under several names including Travel Agents Go Direct, Lucid Long Distance, and Floridaway.
Lawsuit Details
According to the victim, a worker from Florida Direct Imagination Vacations called her about a special vacation package.
To the woman's understanding, the individual was calling from her bank and she had won a sweepstakes.
The caller reportedly gave the woman a bank routing number that she presumed was her old account number since it was only one digit off from her current one.
The caller asked for her current account number, which they claimed they had to withdrawal $14.95 from in order for the vacation package to go through.
Two weeks later the woman discovered the company had withdrew $149 out of her account and she was unable to reach them.
Not the First Victim
According to the suit the defendants have over 700 employees working for them and they have deceived millions of people throughout the country.
