A lawsuit was filed against Hannaford Bros. Co. supermarkets regarding the millions of customer debit and credit card numbers that were recently stolen.
Hackers reportedly hacked into Hannaford's security systems and as a result private information from customers was released when they paid for groceries.
Fraud Victim Files Suit
Todd Stevens, one of the customers affected by the fraud, filed a suit against Hannaford for their failure to provide proper safety to protect customer data.
Stevens claims that he suffered personal and financial injuries due to the hackers and blames the company for being negligent and failing to properly do their job.
Theft Causes Problems for Many
The theft has reportedly resulted in 1, 800 cases of fraud and identity theft and forced credit unions and banks to reissue thousands of credit cards to customers who were affected.
“The delay prevented Stevens and other affected customers from taking adequate steps to monitor and attempt to safeguard their financial information,” says the suit.
Stevens is seeking financial compensation from Hannaford and his suit has provoked many other customers to take action regarding their own inconveniences and losses.
