PASS on Theft
Karen Sommers, the vice president of marketing for ESB Financial suggests that consumers PASS when it comes to fraud and identity theft.
“Protect, Alert, Shred and Scan,” says Sommers.
She says that consumers need to better protect their credit cards, Social Security and other account numbers to prevent fraud from occurring.
Being alert to leaving personal information available to others is also essential for prevention, along with shredding any unneeded documents with account information.
Scanning receipts and statements will also secure your account information.
Dangers of Credit Card Fraud
Gary Eichorn, a Lyon County Sheriff, explains that when criminals assume someone else’s identity and use the person’s credit card, the victim is often susceptible to a loss limit.
“But the problem is, your credit is destroyed for three or four years,” says Eichorn. “It’s not that you’ve lost money, but it just takes a longer time to recover.”
Eichorn suggests that the public be cautious of putting personal information in Internet communities and other places that are available to the public.

Consumer fraud class action lawsuits are specifically designed to help individuals who have been similarly aggrieved to pursue a common goal – namely to hold the deceptive business accountable for any damages suffered. Thus, consumers who have been defrauded by a corporation or other entity may file a consumer fraud class action lawsuit on behalf of themselves and others to seek compensation for their shared grievance.
