An insurance company won an insurance fraud case filed against a ring of criminals in New Jersey earlier this week.
In filing the suit, the insurance company said they were simply hoping to recover the losses that had been stolen from them over the period of time that the insurance fraud ring was up and running.
Judge Awards Insurance Company
The settlement, which was decided by Judge Bill Mathesius, awarded $1.5 million to the New Jersey Re-Insurance Co.
The company is a subsidiary of the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co., explained spokesman for the company Patrick Breslin.
Insurance Fraud Ring Caught
According to reports, 52 people were involved in the insurance fraud ring, which was active throughout the east coast. All the defendants were from northern New Jersey and none of them appeared in court the day the trial came to an end.
Those involved in the fraud supposedly took thousands in insurance benefits for medical and other claims relating to car accidents.
The ring was working together to scam the insurance company from 2000 to 2004.
They were finally caught when employees at the New Jersey Re-Insurance Co. noticed a trend in the auto accidents that were being reported.
