A resident of Arizona recently filed a suit against LifeLock claiming that the company defrauds consumers by offering services that they can’t legally provide.
LifeLock is a three-year-old company that promotes themselves as being able to provide protection to customers against identity theft.
LifeLock Accused
The suit accuses the company offering services they aren’t able to provide as well as of giving a $1 million guarantee to customers that is misleading.
LifeLock reportedly uses aggressive advertising and sales techniques to lure customers to sign up for their monthly service.
Lawsuit Claims
The lawsuit states that their service, which they describe as “proactive identity theft protection, offering a proven solution that prevents your identity from being stolen before it happens,” is simply a tactic to gain money and cheat consumers.
"The fine print in the $1 million guarantee is so limiting, we think it is almost worthless," states Rob Carey, the attorney who is representing consumers. "LifeLock buries the truth beneath a pile of inconsistencies and disclaimers so deep that we believe the intent is to mislead consumers so they don't make claims."
The suit also states that the company has violated Arizona's Consumer Fraud Act and the Arizona Insurance Code.
The suit is seeking to have all the members' fees refunded due to the illegality of LifeLock’s contracts.
