A jury in Burlington County recently indicted 15 people on consumer fraud charges related to home-improvement work, online auction purchases, and misappropriation of funds.
The charges were revealed after a joint investigation between County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and the Burlington County Office of Consumer Affairs.
Fraud Victimizes Consumers
According to the Consumer Affairs Director, Renee Borstad, the cases are based upon complaints that were filed with the office.
The prosecutor is seeking full restitution for those victimized.
In one case, Elizabeth Palin, was charged with misappropriating $414,000 from Taylor Made Custom Cabinetry of Palmyra, where she was employed.
Types of Theft That Occurred
Authorities report that the theft occurred between 2000 and 2006 and involved everything from credit card purchases, to cash advances and computer criminal activity.
In some cases, people who were hired to do home improvement and roofing work at various homes and businesses were taking money from customers without performing the work.
Among those who are being accused are Joseph Wagner, John Valletto, Robert J. Bocox and Craig M. Matthews.
