A suit was recently filed against a Hollywood organization that apparently was using harassing and intimidating tactics in order to scam Missourians of donations.
The lawsuit was filed by Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon against the Police Protective Fund Inc., (PPF) and the American Association of Police Officers.
Company Accused of Telemarketing Fraud
According to Nixon, the American Association of Police Officers is the administrative home for PPF and receives their management fees from the donations that PPF receives.
The suit claims that telemarketers working for PPF have called residents in Missouri stating that any donations will go towards helping the families of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty through PPF's “Line-Of-Duty Benefits” program.
The PPF took more than $5. 9 million in donations last year alone and only $37, 000 went to the benefits program for families who lost loved ones in 2006.
Nixon Hopes Victims Are Compensated
The lawsuit asks for the court to order the defendants to terminate their telemarketing calls seeing as they violate the Missouri state laws.
Nixon is also hoping that an order will be issued for the defendants to pay full restitution to any consumers who were harmed by the defendant's actions.
He also has requested that they pay civil penalties and court costs.
