Vermont Settles Suit with Poster Company

<< Back to News

Attorney General William Sorrell recently reported that he has reached a settlement with a Michigan company who has been accused of violating the Consumer Fraud Act.

A consumer fraud suit was filed against The Mandatory Poster Agency last June.

Poster Company Commits Fraud

According to Sorrell, the company did business under the name The Vermont Labor Law Poster Service and told consumers that they were government-affiliated.

The company reportedly mailed 50,000 solicitations to businesses throughout Vermont claiming that if they failed to post their $50 labor law posters they could face criminal penalties.

Sorrell claims that the company is also being sued by six other states.

Settlement Reached

The Mandatory Poster Agency is owned by Thomas Steven and Joseph Fata.

The suit alleges that the company also violated a Vermont regulation that forbids the use of a Vermont address unless the company is conducting business in the state.

Both owners have agreed to pay an estimated $200,000 to its Vermont customers and $30,000 to the state.

The owners have also agreed to not represent themselves as a Vermont company in the future.
