The Attorney General of Vermont recently filed a consumer fraud suit against a jeweler living in Ontario.
The jeweler is being accused of selling products with excessive amounts of lead in them.
Lead Exposure Proven Harmful
Attorney General William H. Sorrell filed the suit against Ganz, Inc., for distributing jewelry and other metal products containing a high level of lead in stores throughout Vermont.
The complaint says that lead is highly toxic, especially to children and can cause serious neurological damage.
Even when exposed to lead in small amounts, the Attorney General claims that it can cause behavioral problems and increase the risk of seizures.
Jeweler Under Fire
According to reports, 12 of 15 samples of jewelry from Gatz Inc., proved to have 726 times the legal limit of lead in them.
The Attorney General says that by distributing these defective products and not disclosing the serious risks associated with them, Ganz is practicing deceptive trade under the state’s Consumer Fraud Act.
Among other things, the suit is asking the court to ban the sale of lead-containing products in the state of Vermont in the future.
